Visiting fiction writer Lee Conell and visiting poet Daniel Groves will read from their work on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 4:30 p.m. in Gailor Auditorium on the campus of the University of the South. The event is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow.

Lee Conell teaches at Vanderbilt University, where she earned her MFA. Her debut story collection, Subcortical, was published this fall by Johns Hopkins University Press. Her stories have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Kenyon Review, Guernica, The Collagist, Glimmer Train, and elsewhere. Her story “The Lock Factory” won the Chicago Tribune’s Nelson Algren Literary Arts Award in 2016 and was noted as a Distinguished Story in Best American Short Stories 2016. In addition to teaching at Vanderbilt, she serves on faculty for the Sewanee Young Writers’ Conference and will be teaching this spring at Sewanee as a visiting professor. She is currently working on a novel.

Daniel Groves is the author of The Lost Boys (University of Georgia Press) and the co-editor of the forthcoming anthology Jiggery-Pokery Semicentennial (Waywiser Press). His poems have appeared in the Paris Review, Yale Review, and Poetry, among others. He graduated from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University and holds an MFA from Ohio State University and a PhD from the University of Cincinnati. He serves on staff for the Sewanee Writers' Conference and currently teaches poetry as a visiting professor at the University of the South.
