Jeffery Renard Allen

Jeffery Renard Allen (fiction) is a professor of creative writing at the University of Virginia and the author of five books, including two novels, Rails Under My Back (Farrar, Straus & Giroux), which won The Chicago Tribune’s Heartland Prize for Fiction, and Song of the Shank (Graywolf Press), which won the CLMP’s Firecracker Award and was a finalist for the PEN Faulkner Award and a nominee for the Dublin Literary Prize. His short story collection Holding Pattern (Graywolf Press) won the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence. Allen has also received a Whiting Writers’ Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a residency at the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio, Italy.
