Beth Henley (playwriting) is a playwright and screenwriter who lives in California. She received the Pulitzer Prize and a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award in 1981 for her play Crimes of the Heart, as well as a Tony nomination. Other works include The Wake of Jamey Foster, The Debutante Ball, The Lucky Spot, Abundance, Control Freaks, Impossible Marriage, and Ridiculous Fraud. Her work has been produced internationally and translated into over 10 languages. Her newest work, The Jacksonian, had its world premiere at The Geffen Theatre in January 2012. Henley adapted her plays Crimes of the Heart (Academy Award nomination) and The Miss Firecracker Contest into films. She also wrote the screenplay for the film Nobody’s Fool and co-wrote the screenplay for True Stories. A Distinguished Professor of Theatre Arts at Loyola Marymount University, she is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers, the Dramatists Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, and The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
